Voltage Input

Support and discussion about the Tap-Tempo Metronome kit.

Got a great idea or a project using the Tap-Tempo Metronome? Need some additional help to get it working?

Voltage Input

Your little metronome is awesome and has some awesome potential! I plan on incorporating two ideas that were brought up in previous threads. I plan on making a guitar pedal type setup so the band leader can retap a tempo for every song so will need the pushbutton mod. Thanks for the info on connection to Vcc! Next up is to slightly modify the idea brought up in line out thread to include a simple 555 tone generator circuit for putting into the sound system to bring into our In ear monitors. My question is this. The battery holder allows 3 AA batteries that appear to picture the cells in series. That would make a Vcc of approx 4.5 Vdc on a good day. I see no other voltage regulation in the circuit. My hope was to connect this to a dc power supply, probably 9v since it is the standard supplied by most guitar pedal boards and use a 5 Vdc regulator to take it down and clean it up. What is the allowable voltage range that your board can accept without problems?

Thanks!

Hey there, those sound like some good ideas. Using a 5v regulator (7805 or whatever) will work just fine. The chip is rated to 5.5 volts but I'd just use a 5v regulator. We do have a "backwards batteries" protection diode (D1 on the bottom of the PCB) that you can safely skip if you make sure to put 5v in the right place (note that this will also bypass the main power switch, so that may or may not be a good thing for your application).

Good luck, let us know if you make something sweet!

Thanks for the info. I'm drawing up the circuit info now. Hopefully be ready to start ordering parts by the end of the week!

Hey, I am trying to find the encloure that would house this. I can't find final dimesions anywhere. What is the final length and width of the pcb? That would be enough to at least get an idea of what size enclosure to get. Thanks.

Hey there,

The TM2 PCB is 2.12 x 1.52 inches (5.385 x 3.861 cm). Let me know if you need any more measurements.
