.lib file library missing

.lib file library missing

Postby josheeg » Mon Feb 14, 2011 4:54 pm

I loaded the kicad files and they do not have the .lib file where the schematic symbols are.

I know the .lib extention causes problems when emailing a design but the kicad source files I loaded in kicad and .lib does not show up should I rename a file extention .lib
maby a readme file saying symbols.sym sould be renamed symbols.lib after it downloads would fix that problem. :ugeek:

Hi Josh, thanks for the question!

What are you trying to do, where you're running into this issue? Are you trying to load one of our designs in Kicad? If so, let us know which files you downloaded, and where you downloaded the files to. Also, what version of Kicad are you running, Windows/Linux/OSX, and other details that might help troubleshoot.

Thanks!

I have worked on a design in kicad and shared it with my dad who lives a ways away. The library files I could not email him because of the .lib files were seen as some kind of windows library files etc.
So I zipped them and loaded them in the google site file cabinet.
Now in our first design having the project schematc board footprint module .mod and .lib schematic symbols files all in the project directory when were working on it allows us to zip them and share them and sometimes the libraries are needed to be added in the library if a new file or path is used.
under kicad library ... in the schematic editor it has a place to look for libraries in the newer version I can add other defalt directories for it to look for lib files ones you make that are not with the defalt install have to fallow your files to make the design protable.

I see what you mean now about the library files missing. You must be the first person to ever download our Kicad files for a project :)

I am in the progress of updating our build and archival scripts to update the .pro file's path to our shared libraries, as well as including those symbol/module libraries in the zip archive on the website. I'll let you know once I finish, and have updated the zip files on the website.

We're also working to release our Wayne and Layne shared Kicad library for symbols and footprints sometime.

Thanks for the feedback!

I have some kicad projects if you want to share the libraries also for some of them.

I have not used advanced assembly and dorkbotpdx to make a board and robot assemble a open source design that has been published based on kickstarter to fund the development costs so with a parts list the files make a open source electronics project with a build it button. Like linux softwares build option.

I add a x after library.libx so google lets me email them.
